Given: x+y=27 and xy=180

The equation x+y=27 can be written as x=27y.

Substitute this value of x in xy=180, we get

Write 27y as the sum of 12y and 15y, we get

y227y+180=0y212y15y+180=0y(y12)15(y12)=0(y12)(y15)=0y=12 or 15

Thus, if y=12, then x=2712=15
