(a) Apical dominance is the phenomenon that is being overcome by pruning.
Pruning is the phenomenon in which certain parts of the plant such as branches, buds and roots, are selectively removed so that there will be no vertical growth in plants, whereas apical dominance means removal of lateral buds so that plant grows vertically.
(b) Auxin is responsible for apical dominance.
(c) Cytokinins inhibit apical dominance.
