Question

The vertices of a triangle are L(0,1),M(1,-2) and N(-2,1). Draw the figure and its image after the translation 5unit right.

Solution

We know that to translate a figure ‘a’ units horizontally and ‘b’ units vertically in the coordinate plane, a is to be added to the
x-coordinate and b is to be added to the y-coordinates of the vertices. Then new coordinates become:-
A(x,y)A'(x+a,y+b)
The value aandb will be positive if the shift is Right and Vertical up respectively and the value of aandb will be negative if the shift is left and vertical down respectively.
Now we have given:-
L(0,1),M(1,-2),N(-2,1)anda=5,b=0

L'(0+a,1+b)=L'(0+5,1+0)=L'(5,1)

M'(1+a,-2+b)=M'(1+5,-2+0)=M'(6,-2)

N'(-2+a,1+b)=N'(-2+5,1+0)=N'(3,1)

Hence, the coordinate of image after the translation 5unit right are L'(5,1),M'(6,-2),N'(3,1)

Final Answer: The coordinate of image are L'(5,1),M'(6,-2),N'(3,1)
