There was a growing hatred among the people against the British. Different groups fought against the British. Some of them were as follows:
Royal families: The royal families waged battle against the British because the Company often removed or anoint rulers as per their will.
Farmers and landowners: They fought because the British had imposed high taxes and the method of tax collection was oppressive.
Tribals: They rebelled because the British had implemented the Forest Acts due to which the tribals lost their rights over the forests.
Hindus and Muslims: They fought because the missionaries were converting people to Christianity.
Soldiers: Sepoys muntinied because they were not receiving regular salaries. Moreover, Indian soldiers suspected that the cartridges for the new Enfield rifle were coated with the fat of cow and pig. Indian soldiers took this as a direct attack on their religious faith.
