Three appliances are connected in parallel to the same source which provides a voltage of 220 V. A fuse connected to the series will blow if the current exceeds 10 A. If 3 appliances are rated at 60w, 500w & 1200w,at 220 V, will the fuse blow?explain your answer

Dear Student

Current through each appliances is
I1 = P/V = 60/220 = 0.27A
I2 = P/V = 500/ 220 = 2.27 A
I3 = P/V = 1200/220 =5.45 A

In parallel circuit the sum of the currents through each path is equal to the total current that flows from the source.
Therefore I = 0.27+ 2.27+ 5.45 = 7.99 A

So the fuse will not blow as total current through circuit is less than 10 A.
