Question

To expel hot air out of the kitchen, ‘A’ has an exhaust fan fitted on the window of her kitchen, and ‘B’ has a similar exhaust fan fitted on the wall near the ceiling of her kitchen. Which of the exhaust fan will expel the hot air more effectively? Explain why?

Solution

Exhaust fans:

  1. Exhaust fans are typically installed towards the ceilings because warm air rises owing to convection and readily exits the kitchen through the exhaust fans.
  2. Warm air is lighter than colder air, and it increases and has low pressure, so the exhaust fan of 'B' will be more productive and effective in flinging out the excess heat, whereas the exhaust fan of 'A' would not be more proficient because it has an exhaust fan positioned on a window, and thus the surroundings will manage to preserve balancing act by providing some air at a certain warm aspect.
  3. Warm air rises inside the kitchen of 'B,' although her exhaust fan is at a reasonable height compared to A.

Therefore, the exhaust fan of B will expel the hot air effectively as air rises up and her fan is at a greater height than A's.
