Question

Question 96

Twice a number added to half of itself equals 24. Find the number.

Solution

Let the number be x. Then, twice of this number = 2x and half of this number = 12x.
According to the question, 2x+12x=24
Multiplying both sides by 2, we get 4x + x = 48
5x=485x5=485      [dividing both sides by 5]x=9.6
Hence, the required number is 9.6.
