Two block are connected by a string and kept on the frctionless surface as shown above in the figure. Block 2 is pulled by a force of 40 N, which accelerates both the blocks at 3m/s2. Calculate the tension in the string connecting the blocks if mass of both the blocks are same.

The correct option is B 20 N
The string between the blocks has to accelerate only half the mass (block 1) as the 40 N force at an acceleration of 3m/s2, so the tension in the string between the blocks is half of 40 N i.e. 20 N.
