Two blocks A and B of equal masses are attached to a string passing over a smooth pulley fixed to a wedge as shown in the figure. Find the magnitude of acceleration of center of mass of the two blocks when they are released from rest. Neglect friction.

Solution

Net force on the system of two blocks is mgsin600mgsin300=0.366mg down the incline so acceleration of the system(center of mass) will be 0.366mg/2m=0.183g=1.83m/s2
we have used g=10m/s2

and the acceleration obtained is in the direction 1200 from horizontal.
