Solution

The correct option is B 4 m/s,8 m/s

m1=4 kg,m2=2 kg
Velocities of 4 kg and 2 kg block are 12 m/s and zero respectively.
Let the velocity of center of mass be Vcm.
Vcm=m1v1+m2v2m1+m2 [v1=12 m/sv2=0]
=4×12+2×04+2=486=8 m/s
i.e Vcm=8 m/s

Velocity of 4 kg block in COM frame,
V1=v1Vcm=128=4 m/s
Velocity of 2 kg block in COM frame,
V2=v2Vcm=08 m/s=8 m/s
i.e |V2|=8 m/s

So, magnitude of velocities of block 4 kg and 2 kg block in COM frame are 4 m/s and 8 m/s respectively.
