The correct option is A 140 N
By the free body diagram,
It is given that the tention in the string is T=40 N, we also know that the whole system will move with acceleration a .

By the free body diagram of the individual block,
For 2 kg block Writing the force equation
T20=2×a4020=2×a
a=10 m/s2

By the free body diagram of 5 kg and the acceleration is same as a=10 m/s2
Writing the force equation
FT50=5a, F4050=5×10,

on solving F=140 N
Hence option (a) is the correct answer.
