Momentum of m1 is P1=MV
Momentum of m2 is P2=MV
Their sum is PR=P1+P2=MVMV=0 . . . . (i)

Let us consider the resultant velocity of the system as VR
Resultant mass of the system be MR=m1+m2=2M
The Resultant momentum of the system PR=MRVR=2MVR . . . . (ii)

Comparing (i) and (ii),
