Question

Two circular coils P and Q are kept close to each other, of which coil P carries a current. If coil P is moved towards Q, will some current be induced in coil Q? Give the reason for your answer and name the phenomenon involved.

Solution

Due to the current in the coil P, the Magnetic field will produce in the space near P. Another coil Q is kept in the magnetic field of P that will link magnetic flux.
When the coil P move then flux linkage in the Q will change. This change in flux in coil Q induces emf in it and when the circuit is closed then current will also flow through the coil.

The phenomenon is called electromagnetic induction.
