Question

Two different voltmeters are used to measure the voltage across resistor RB in the circuit shown below.

The meters are as follows.

MeterA:S=1 kΩ/V,Rm=0.2 kΩ,range=10 V

MeterB:S=20 kΩ/V,Rm=1.5 kΩ,range=10 V

Voltage across RB when meter A, meter B are used respectively

A
3.53 V, 4.9 V

Solution

The correct option is A 3.53 V, 4.9 V
Resistance of meter,
A=1 kΩ/V×10 V
=10 kΩ

The parallel combination of RB and meter A is

Re1=5×105+10=3.33 kΩ

VRB=30×3.333.33+25=3.53 V

Resistance of meter B,

=20 kΩ/V×10

=200 kΩ

The parallel combination of RB and meter B is

=5×2005+200=4.88 kΩ

VRB=30×4.884.88+25=4.9 V
