Two electric bulbs $P$ and $Q$ have their resistances in the ratio of $1 : 2$ . They are connected in series across a battery. Find the ratio of the power dissipation in these bulbs.

Solution

Given: Bulb resistance are in ratio 1:2(P:Q)
We know that, $P o w e r = I^{2} R$
Taking ratio, $\frac{P_{P}}{P_{Q}} = \frac{I^{2} R_{P}}{I^{2} R_{Q}}$
Since bulbs are connected in series current flowing will be same so $I_{P} = I_{Q} = I$
Taking ratio, $\frac{P_{P}}{P_{Q}} = \frac{R_{P}}{R_{Q}} = \frac{1}{2}$
