Two glassess 'A' and 'B' had water mixed with salt and milk respectively. Answer the following questions based on the above statement.
a) What type of mixtures are A and B? Provide alternatives for the mixtures A and B. (2 marks)
b) How will you separate water from the substances in A and B? (2 marks)

a)
  1. Mixture A and B have salt and milk resepectively mixed in water. Both the substances easily dissolve in water. They form a homogeneous mixture. (1 mark)
  2. Here, mixture A, salt water does not change the colour of the water. Based on this, we can mix sugar instead of salt to get the result. (0.5 mark)
  3. Mixture B, milk changes the colour of the water as it dissolves. Based on this, we can mix lemon juice which slightly changes the colour of the water (0.5 mark)

b)
  1. In mixture A, since salt is mixed with water, it can be easily separated by methods like evaporation, distillation, crystallisation, etc. (1 mark)
  2. In mixture B, since milk is mixed with water, it can be separated with the help of distillation. (1 mark)
