Question

Two identical, flat, circular coils of wire each have 100 turns and a radius of 0.4 m. The coils are arranged coaxially, one beside the other, with their planes parallel and with separation 0.6 m. Each coil carries a current of 10 A as shown. Determine the magnitude of the magnetic field at a point on the common axis of the coils and midway between them.

Solution

The correct option is C 1.6×103 T
For a point midway between the coils,

R=0.4 m and x=0.3 m

The net magnetic field at the midpoint,

B=μoNIR22(R2+x2)3/2+μoNIR22(R2+x2)3/2

=μoNIR2(R2+x2)3/2

Substituting the values,

B=4π×107×100×10×0.42(0.42+0.32)3/2

=1.6×103 T

Hence, option (C) is the correct answer.
