Question

Two lamps, one rated 100 W at 220 V, and the other 60 W at 220 V, are connected in parallel to the electric mains supply. How much current is drawn from the line if the supply voltage is 220 V? (Keep your answer to 2 decimal places)

Solution

Resistance of the first lamp, R1 = V2P = 484 Ω

Resistance of the first lamp, R1 = V2P = 806.7 Ω

Rparallel = 484806.7484+806.7) = 302.6 Ω

I = V/Rp = \(\frac{220}{302.6}\ = 0.73 A
