Question

Two particles A and B are in motion. If the wavelength associated with particle A is 5×108 m; Calculate the wavelength associated with particle B if momentum is half of A.

Open in App
Solution

The relation between wavelength and momentum of moving particle is given by
Momentum =hwavelength
p=hλ
Wavelength of the particle A=5×108 m
Let the momentum of particle A is pA and the momentum of the particle B is pB
Relation between pA and pB is:
pB=pA2
pA=h5×108 m
pB=h5×108 m×2
Wavelength of B(lambda)
=hpB=hh5×108 m×2=10×108 m=107 m
