Question

Two plane mirror A and B are oriented perpendicular to each other. A light ray incident at angle θ on mirror A is also reflected by the mirror B. If the reflected ray from mirror B is parallel to the incident ray on A, such that the ray reflected from the first mirror as the same angle of incidence on the second mirror then find the value of θ.

Solution

It is given i1=i2
And from figure i2=90θ
And from laws of reflection r1=i1=90θ
Hence x=90r1=θ
And since i2=i1=90θ
Hence y=90i2=θ
so from triangle
900+x+y=1800
2θ=900
θ=450
