The permissible stresses in the plate and the weld are 160 MPa and 120 MPa, respectively. Assuming the length of the weld as shown in the figure to be the effective length, the permissible tensile load P is
pw=fw×leff×tt
=120(100+100+50)×0.7×6×10−3kN
=126 kN
PPlate=σat×Anet=160×50×8×10−3=64kN
So, permissible tensile load = 64 kN
