According to question,
BC = 12 meters
AB = AE - CD
= 12 - 7 = 5 meters

Using Pythagoras theorem, for $\Delta$ABC we get
$A{B}^2+B{C}^2=A{C}^2$
$\Rightarrow AC=\sqrt{5^2+{12}^2}=13m$
$\therefore$ AC or the third side = 13 meters.
$\therefore$ The distance between the poles = 13 meters.
