The thermal expansion of a solid depends on its:
  • Initial length
  • Material
  • Change in temperature
All these parameters are directly proportional to thermal expansion. Since the material and change in temperature is same for both the rods, the thermal expansion of rod depends upon their initial lengths. Here, the rod B has more length so rod B elongates more than the rod A.
