Question

Two small boats are 10 m apart on a lake. Each boat pops up and down with a period of 4.0 sec due to wave motion on the surface of water. Solution

The correct option is B 5.0 m/s

Clearly, the separation between boats is λ/2=10 λ=20 m ..... (1)
The time period of oscillation of each boat T=4 sec ..... (2)
Linear frequency is f=14 Hz

For the wave motion,
v=fλ
v=14×20=5 m/s

Hence, (B) is the correct answer.
