The correct option is B L1α1+L2α2L1+L2
Let us write,
L1=L1(1+α1dt)
L2=L2(1+α2dt)
Adding these two equations, we get,
L1+L2=L1+L2+L1α1dt+L2α2dt
=(L1+L2)+(L1α1+L2α2)dt
= (L1+L2)[1+(L1α1+L2α2)dt/(L1+L2)]
If α = coefficient of linear expansion of the combined length , we can write,
α = (L1α1+L2α2)/(L1+L2)
