Histones are positively charged basic proteins. DNA packaging starts with nucleosomes; each of which is made of DNA wrapped around histone octamer. Each histone octamer has two copies each of the histone proteins H2A, H2B, H3 and H4. The nucleosomes chain is then wrapped into a 30 nm spiral solenoid.
