Types of flagellation in bacteria with examples

Flagella is a whip like appendage protruding from the surface of bacterial cell that helps them in movement. Based on the number and arrangement, the flagella are classified into following types.
  1. Monotrichous: Here single flagella is present at one end. E.g, Vibrio Cholerae
  2. Amphitrichous: Here two plagella are present one at each end. E.g. Alcaligenes faecalis
  3. Lophotrichous: Here Tuft of flagella are present. They may be present at one or both ends. E.g. Spirilla
  4. Peritrichous: Here flagella are distributed all over the body. E.g, Typhoid bacilli
