Question

can weight deposited by equivalent weight give us no. of moles? (question from faraday's law) as there is a question which says: How many atoms of calcium will be deposited from a solution of CaCl2 by a current of 25 milliamperes flowing for 60 seconds

Solution

Dear Student
It can give us number of moles but you must take care to do the calculations carefully and remember the n-factor for the atoms.

Reaction is : Ca2+ + 2e- Ca
Now charge flown=25 x 10-3 x 60 =1500 x 10-3 = 1.5 C

96500 x 2 C charge is required to deposit 40 g Calcium.
so Calcium deposited by (40/(96500 x2)) x 1.5=0.000310 g Ca
