(a) Ethane can be oxidised to form ethyl alcohol (ethanol) on heating it at 200oC in the presence of oxygen and Cu.

(b) Ethane should first be oxidised to form ethyl alcohol (ethanol) by heating it at 200oC in the presence of oxygen and Cu. Then, ethyl alcohol in the presence of acidified potassium dichromate leads to the formation of acetic acid.
