Ethane is converted to ethanol by passing over hot Cu tube.
$2 C_{2} H_{6} + O_{2} \frac{C u}{200^{\circ} C} 2 C_{2} H_{5} O H$

Then, ethanol is oxidized to acetaldehyde and then it is further oxidized to acetic acid.
