Uniform rod AB of mass 3 kg and length 2 m is hinged at end A in horizontal position as shown in the figure. The other end is connected to a block of mass 1 kg through a massless string. The pulley is smooth and massless. Find the angular acceleration of the rod about the hinge just after release. (Take anti-clockwise rotation positive)

F.B.D of block m:

F.B.D of rod:


Due to string constraint, acceleration of point B (aB) will be equal to a m/s2
We know,
aB=α×2 (for pure rotation)
α=aB2=a2
a=2α
Torque equation about point A
l×Tl2×Mg=Iα
2×(mgma)l2×Mg=Ml23×α
2(ga)1×3g=4α
2(g2α)3g=4α
α=g8
(- ve) sign indicates rod will have angular acceleration in clockwise direction.
