Solution

Parturition- the process of delivery of the foetus, is induced by a complex neuro-endocrine mechanism. The first step initiating this mechanism is the foetal-ejection reflex, therefore normal parturition does not occur unless foetal-ejection reflex is not produced.
Process of parturition :
  • The signals of parturition originate from fully-developed foetus and placenta which induces mild uterine contractions known as foetal-ejection reflex.
  • These contractions results in release of maternal hormone oxytocin from pituitary gland.
  • Oxytocin promotes further contraction of uterine muscles.
  • These contractions stimulate secretion of more oxytocin.
  • The synergistic combination of uterine contraction and oxytocin secretion results in stronger contractions.
  • This finally leads to the explusion of baby out of the uterus through birth canal that is vagina.
