Question

Use the formula to expand the following:

(2) (1 − y)3

Open in App
Solution

We know that (x − y)3 = x3 − 3x2y + 3xy2 − y3.
Comparing (1 − y)3 with (x − y)3, we get:
x = 1 and y = y
Substituting these in the above formula:
(1 − y)3 = 13 − 3 × 12 × y + 3 × 1 × y2 − y3
= 1 − 3y + 3y2 − y3
