Solution

Variation is beneficial for the survival of species than the individuals. As the environmental conditions are changing drastically e.g. if the temperature of water increases suddenly, then most of the bacteria living in the water would die. Only a few variants that are resistant to heat will be able to survive in this conditions. If these variants were not there then the entire species of bacteria might extinct. Then, variations are important for the survival of species.
