Solution

Variations:

Variations are the differences in the characteristics or traits amongst the members of a particular species.

Theory of evolution:

  1. The natural variation takes place within the population.
  2. The members of the same species compete for mates, shelter, and food.
  3. The unfit organism cannot compete with the rest of the population.
  4. The fit population shows the favorable variation that is inherited by the offspring of the successive generations.
  5. The organisms that possess favorable variations only get the permit to survive and reproduce in nature.

Example:

  1. Previously, there were two types of giraffes, some had long necks while some had short ones.
  2. When the low-lying shrubs died, the giraffes with the short neck variations could not carry on their struggle to survive.
  3. So, it can be said that organisms can only survive if the variations present in them become advantageous.
