(i)p(x)=5xπ,x=45
(ii)p(x)=x21,x=1,1 [4 MARKS]

Open in App
Solution

Concept: 1 Mark
Application: 1.5 Marks each

(i)p(x)=5xπ,x=45

p(45)=5(45)π=4π

p(45)0

45 is not the zero of the polynomial p(x)=5xπ.

(ii)p(x)=x21,x=1,1

p(1)=121=11=0

p(1)=(1)21=11=0

Both p(1) and p(−1) are equal to 0. It means that 1 and -1 are zeroes of the polynomial p(x)=x21.
