Vinoba Bhave, a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi, noticed the problems faced by the landless harijans in Pochampalli, Telangana. He led the movement in an attempt to bring about a “non-violent revolution” in India’s land reforms programme.
The movement was about urging the landed classes to voluntarily surrender a part of their land to the landless giving it the name- Bhoodan Movement. It began in 1951.
