Riechstein in 1933, synthesized Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid). Vitamin C is chemically synthesized by Reichstein method which is a two step process; First, the conversion of glucose to sorbitol and then this sorbitol is further converted to sorbose by fermentation using Acetobacter. The sorbose is further oxidized, purified and recrystallized to form ascorbic acid (vitamin C).
