Washed clothes dry Faster on a windy day? why?
Wet clothes dry faster on a windy day.
If you hang up the wet clothes on a sunny day - without any winds - the thermal radiation from the Sun heats up the wet clothes, converting moisture into water vapour. This water vapour will remain on the clothes until it is slowly moved away by convection currents, depending on the ambient temperature. Consequently, the higher concentration of water vapour may result in keeping the clothes wet longer.
If it is a windy day, there is convection, and the saturated air on the surface of the clothes is replaced by drier air - and this accelerates the drying process. The wind carries the water vapour away, preventing any concentration of moisture on the clothes. In fact, if it quite windy, then the air molecules will be powerful enough to sweep the water molecules away too.
