We all have seen water bodies, the water is generally clear but at places, the surface of water can be seen covered by green plants, known as Algae. The algae grows on the water surface because of the nutrients in the water body, how does this affect the life of the aquatic organisms?
An increase in the level of nutrients in the water bodies leads to an excessive increase in the population of algae in the water body. When these algae die, they become food for the decomposers. A lot of oxygen is utilized in this process, consequently decreasing the level of oxygen in the water body. Oxygen deficiency leads to death and harmful effects for fishes and other aquatic organisms
