Question

We cannot prepare lead sulphate by treating lead carbonate with dilute sulphuric acid.Why?

Solution

The direct addition of dil. Sulphuric acid to lead carbonate will cause the deposition of lead sulphate on the surface of lead carbonate which stops further reaction on it.So even though chemically it is correct,practically we can add sulphuric acid to lead carbonate to prepare lead sulphate.
