Question

We know that shiny, well polished surfaces like mirror reflect light well. We can also see our reflection in still water because it acts like a mirror. So if I make a laser light or any torch light fall on still water, will it reflect light? Plz explain the answer

Solution

Yes dear,
You are right, when light falls onto a surface it reflects and some light is absorbed by it.
Whenever we see our image in water, it is due to reflected light, but we are not able to see imagein water as clear as we can see in mirror because lot of light it absorb.

Similarly if we make a laser light or torch, yes some of its light reflect but some get absorbed.
But most of its part is absorbed so you cannot expect reflection as it happens in case of mirror.

Lets take an example, in dark closed room if you throw light only on water, you can see some light in room (due to reflection) and a lighted water (due to absorption).
