Let x be the distance.

Time =distance/speed.

Then, the time taken for the outbound journey equals x/30 and the time taken for the inbound journey equals x/20

Total time taken = 5x/60

and the total distance travelled equals 2x

Average speed =total distance travelled/total time taken

So, average speed equals (2x)/(5x/60)

which is equal to 24 M/S.
