Open in App
Solution

Lipids:

  1. These are organic compounds.
  2. In the human body, these molecules are synthesized in the liver.
  3. Some of the sources of lipids are butter, cheese, fried foods, ghee, oil, whole milk, and also in some red meats.
  4. They are of two types: simple lipids(fats and waxes) and complex lipids(phospholipids, sphingolipids).

Properties of lipids:

  1. They are oily or greasy nonpolar molecules that are stored in the adipose tissue of the body.
  2. They are insoluble in water as water is a polar molecule and they are hydrophobic.
  3. They are a heterogeneous group of compounds but are mainly composed of hydrocarbon chains.
  4. They are energy-rich organic molecules, hence helping in providing energy for different life processes like digestion and cell signaling.
