Uses of Bacteria:

  1. Certain bacteria or prokaryotes are capable of converting atmospheric nitrogen to ammonia.
  2. This process is generally called biological nitrogen fixation.
  3. The enzyme nitrogenase then converts dinitrogen to ammonia.
  4. Nitrogen-fixing bacteria may be free-living or the symbiotic.
  5. Some of free-living nitrogen fixers are Azotobacter, Beijernickia, Rhodospirillum, cyanobacteria, etc.
  6. Lactobacillus bacteria helps in conversion of milk into curd.
  7. Methanogens are anaerobic bacteria that grow by producing methane gas.
