Green Revolution

The Green Revolution was implemented by the Government of India for the modernization of agriculture. The program was based on providing high-yielding variety(HYV) or hybrid seeds, pesticides, fertilizers, and other inputs, to farmers.

Advantages of the Green Revolution

  1. The number of greenhouse emissions can be reduced.
  2. It allows us to create more food than conventional methods of growing.
  3. It offers good yields in challenging conditions.
  4. It allows a decline in food costs across the globe making food economically sustainable.
  5. It increases the per capita income of farmers by increasing the agricultural outputs.

Disadvantages of the Green revolution

  1. A lack of biodiversity in the croplands.
  2. With one incurable disease, it can be washed out.
  3. It decreases the soil quality used for growing crops.
  4. It needs the use of agricultural methods that are not sustainable.
  5. It causes adverse health effects.
