Alveoli:

  1. These are tiny, balloon-shaped air sacs.
  2. The thick walls of the alveoli are lined with simple squamous epithelial cells known as alveolar cells containing extracellular matrix and capillaries found in lungs.
  3. This single layer of squamous cells is ideal for the diffusion of gases in the lungs.

The function of alveoli:- Their function involves the movement of Oxygen and Carbon dioxide (CO2) molecules into and out of the bloodstream.
