Methanogens:

  1. Microorganisms that create methane as a byproduct of their metabolism are known as methanogens.
  2. During sewage treatment, they are typically detected in anaerobic sludge.
  3. These bacteria can be found in the rumen as well (a part of the stomach of cattle).
