The n-type of semiconductor is created by adding pentavalent impurities in the semiconductor material like silicon and germanium. This pentavalent impurities can be phosphorus, antimony and arsenic, this impurities contributes free electrons, greatly increasing the conductivity of the intrinsic semi conductor. In n-type material, there are electron energy levels near the top of the band gap so that they can be easily excited into the conduction band. In this case, electrons are the majority carriers and holes are the minority carriers.
