Solution

Plant hormone

Plant hormones are the chemicals released by plants to aid in the growth regulation and development of plants. They are also known as plant growth regulators.

Auxins

  1. Auxins are a type of plant growth regulator secreted by the plants to promote growth along the longitudinal axis.
  2. The most common form of naturally occurring auxin is Indole-3-acetic acid.

Functions of auxin:

  • It helps in the elongation of cells, thereby promoting the growth of fruits, roots, and shoots.
  • They promote the growth of apical buds but not the lateral buds. This phenomenon is called apical dominance.
